OEM stage lighting: approve the product before the logo

Prepare a clear OEM brief for fixture configuration, branding, documentation, sample approval and packing.

The starting point

An OEM brief should define the exact product and configuration before artwork is approved. Agree the performance requirements, connectors, control behaviour, documentation and packaging, then use an identified sample and written change record to confirm the accepted supply. Logo placement is one part of that process.

Separate the product brief from the artwork brief

Start with the application and the exact model or variant you want to evaluate. List the optical functions, control modes, connectors, electrical requirements and environmental conditions that matter to your market. If you are replacing an existing product in a range, identify which characteristics must remain compatible and which may change.

Then prepare the branding requirements: the approved logo file, colours, placement, model naming and packaging copy. Include the language of labels and documents. A clear artwork file helps production, but it does not resolve a different channel chart, connector or optical configuration. Keep both briefs attached to the same product identity.

Make requested changes visible

Use one revision record for the proposed configuration. Distinguish a requested change, a confirmed option and an unresolved question. This prevents a discussion about one sample from being interpreted as approval of every possible variant. Ask the supplier to state which changes are feasible for that product and order.

Consider the implications for manuals, console profiles, labels and service information. A renamed fixture still needs documentation that matches the actual hardware and firmware. Avoid assuming that a certificate or test report for a different configuration automatically applies to the customised supply. Request the relevant documents for the intended product and market.

Define what the sample must prove

Use photographs and test records to identify what was approved. If a sample changes after a test, record the change rather than relying on memory. A sample approval should state its scope; it should not silently become a claim that every market requirement or future order has been assessed.

  • Model, hardware and firmware identity of the sample.
  • Required optical and control functions under agreed test conditions.
  • Connectors, accessories, mounting components and case configuration.
  • Logo, model marking, labels, language and packaging artwork.
  • Manual, channel chart, console profile and applicable product documents.
  • Accepted differences, outstanding changes and the final approval revision.

Keep packing and after-sales questions in the order

Request the proposed packing arrangement and the accessories included per unit or case. Check that the model markings on the quotation, product, manual and carton refer to the same accepted configuration. For a mixed order, identify the quantities and packing allocation by model rather than using one broad description.

Ask how model identification, replacement parts and technical questions will be handled after delivery. Agree any support and commercial terms directly for the order. Do not infer minimum order quantities, lead times, warranty periods or exclusive territory rights from a general OEM service description.

Prepare your enquiry for YL

Send the target market, application, model shortlist, planned quantities and destination, together with the requested branding and configuration changes. State whether you need a sample for evaluation and provide your approval checklist. YL can discuss the available scope for the specific product and order; the accepted configuration and terms should be recorded before production is agreed.

Common questions

Can every fixture be customised in the same way?

No universal scope should be assumed. Feasibility depends on the product, requested changes and order. Ask for the options to be confirmed for the exact configuration.

What artwork should accompany an OEM enquiry?

Send the approved logo files, placement and colour requirements, model naming, label languages and packaging copy. Keep them linked to the product configuration revision.
